The Hartwick Seminary Monthly was the student newspaper and included Seminary and neighborhood news, society notes, alumni notes and poetry. The Hartwick Seminary Bulletin was a weekly publication from February - June 1927 updating the Seminary's Appeal to raise funds to estabilish a college in Oneonta.

Established in 1797 as the first Lutheran Seminary in the United States. John Christopher Hartwick (1714-1796) was born in Molschleben, Germany and educated at the University of Halle. He arrived in America in 1746 an ordained Lutheran minister. He had a strong desire to establish a seminary and send missionaries out to Christianize the Indians.
